About me
My name is Michal Tomíček, and I focus on working with data in a financial environment. My professional experience is primarily in controlling, reporting, and analytics, where I combine financial expertise with technical tools for data processing.
What I do
I focus on data in finance and controlling, especially on its use for day-to-day decision-making. I connect reporting, automation, and data modeling so that the result is not just data, but clear and actionable information.
In practice, I mainly work on:
- automation of data flows and processes,
- development of reporting in Power BI,
- data processing from systems such as SAP and their further transformation,
- use of artificial intelligence to improve efficiency in working with data.
I work with tools that support the full data lifecycle - from extraction and transformation to final visualization, for example:
- SQL (psql, SSMS),
- SAP systems (R/3, BW/4HANA, EPM),
- Python (NumPy, Pandas),
- Power BI & DAX,
- AI (ML, LLMs, AI agents).
How I think
I aim to minimize manual work and eliminate unnecessary complexity. What matters to me is that outputs are not only technically correct, but also practically usable.
From data to decisions
Turning data into actionable decisions is the core objective of my work. The goal is not more data, but clear insights that support better decision-making.
Efficiency by design
Efficiency should be built into processes from the beginning, not added later. Well-designed workflows reduce manual effort and create space for meaningful analysis.
Practical innovation
Technology should solve real problems, not just look impressive. I focus on applying tools like AI and automation where they bring measurable value to everyday work.
Research
As part of my PhD studies at the Faculty of Economics, Technical University of Liberec, I focus on measuring the efficiency of professional football clubs. In both research and publications, I primarily use the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method, which evaluates efficiency based on how effectively inputs are transformed into outputs compared to best-performing units. My focus is on linking sporting and economic performance and working with complex data structures.

Free time
In my free time, I mostly spend time cycling or in the mountains. I ride a gravel bike and prefer longer routes on paved or compact surfaces, often in the Jizera Mountains.
Similar to my work, I enjoy finding efficient and simple solutions - whether it is route planning, equipment, or overall approach.
Cycling
I spend a significant part of my free time on a Giant Revolt 1 GRX, a gravel bike designed for versatility and longer endurance rides. I mainly ride on paved or compact surfaces.
Football
I used to play football actively until the age of 23. Today, I play only occasionally, mainly due to knee issues and time constraints related to work and my PhD.
Hiking
I regularly go hiking, especially in the Jizera and Giant Mountains. It is a way for me to clear my head and recharge, while still staying active.
Vision
I believe in turning data into decisions - not only in business, but also in everyday life, where clarity and understanding matter most. The goal is always to simplify complexity and focus on what truly drives outcomes.
At the same time, I see continuous adaptation as essential. The ability to respond to changes in the environment and to effectively use new technologies is no longer optional - it is a prerequisite for staying relevant, both professionally and personally.
